Summer schools prove big draw

A RECORD number of sixth-formers have applied for places at the Sutton Trust’s summer schools for potential recruits to top universities. More than 2,000 sixth-formers at state schools and colleges have applied this year for about 700 places at the free, week-long summer schools at Bristol, Cambridge, Nottingham and Oxford, which start on July 6. In addition, 235 students from the North-east have applied for the first four-day residential master class at Durham university from July 9, sponsored jointly by the Sutton Trust and the Ogden Trust. And 125 have applied to the Sutton Trust-sponsored summer school at St Andrew’s university.
