While genuinely not begrudging the first 50 advanced skills teachers their additional status and pay, I do find it very difficult to accept that these chosen teachers are Pounds 6,000-a-year better than the rest of us.
Is the Government’s aim of creating 5,000 of such posts based on an estimate of how many of these “superteachers” actually exist or on what they can, or are prepared, to afford?
This lottery approach to performance-related pay will serve only to alienate the entire teaching profession (except of course for the chosen ones).
