The new workload deal means I will no longer be able to use my professional expertise to earn a living as a supply teacher. No longer will long-serving teachers be able to “get out early” but still work. No longer will newly-qualified teachers be able to get a toe-hold until they are able to obtain a job.
At the school where I do most of my work, day-to-day cover is now being given to three newly-appointed assistants.
Teachers like me, who are happy to work as regular supply, will leave the profession. It seems that just when supply teachers are being seen as having an important role, the agreement will devastate livelihoods.
