Support awards

The Scottish Support for Learning Association has launched awards for partnerships providing additional support for vulnerable learners. Entries are invited by mid-June from anyone involved in a partnership and awards will be made to examples that are particularly innovative, effective, sustainable andor transferable.

An innovative partnership based in a Highland primary school works with an eight-year-old boy taken into care, giving him practical and positive support. Other examples are an educationsocial work youth cafe for disaffected young people, a lunch held regularly for parents of children in trouble, a mainstream classroom partnership to provide additional support for literacy and an S3 maths partnership for a dyslexic pupil.

The scheme is supported by Macdonald Hotels, the Scottish Executive Education Department, local authorities, the Educational Institute of Scotland and TES Scotland. For entry forms, e-mail info@ssla.org.uk
