Support staff not here to mind gaps

I agree with Christine McAnea (TES, June 28) that support staff in schools should receive adequate pay. But she is yet another person who makes reference to their use to plug gaps in teaching numbers.

No matter how short of doctors we become, nobody suggests they should use more support staff to conduct operations.

England’s General Teaching Council should tell the Government it will not accept anyone teaching children who is not trained to do so.
