PRIMARY school results (TES, December 10) make interesting reading but can we learn anything from them?

As in previous years, church schools have performed extremely well. Approximately 40 per cent of primaries in England are church schools, yet they form 60 per cent of the “best” 100. How does this come about?

Of course, quality teaching counts, but any school has its mix of good and indifferent teachers. The strength of all church schools lie in the parental support, together with a pride in its general ethos.
