Surprise at training college rejections;Letter

I HAVE recently been rejected from primary teaching PGCE courses at two institutions.

I am male, aged 30, I have a degree and an MA, I have worked for the past 10 years as an arts educator. I have further and higher education teaching experience and I have two small children.

Only 14 per cent of first-year primary trainees are male. Why then have I not even been interviewed? One suggested answer is that I have not volunteered in a school to gain experience of the literacy hour. I am prepared to give up my profession for a year to do a course; surely this shows some sense of vocation.
