Sustrans, a charity working for sustainable transport, has two Safe Routes to Schools packs, one for primary and and one for secondary pupils. Each contains a well-balanced and interesting mixture of cross-curricular activities, such as exploring the development of road transport, using a computer program for digital mapping or understanding the administrative network within which trafic decisions are made. Equally important, each contains hard-headed advice on developing a school travel plan for pedestrians and cyclists.

Each pack, available in English and Welsh, costs pound;15 for schools and individuals (pound;20 for local authorities) from Sustrans, PO Box 21, Bristol BS99 2HA. Tel: 0117 929 0888, or via the website: www.sustrans.org.uk
