(Photograph) - Donald Macdonald, janitor at Back School on Lewis, joined the ranks of the great and the good in Glasgow last week as he was named “best education supporter” at the first Scottish Education Awards.

Mr Macdonald is not just the janitor and is described by the pupils who nominated him as their “sports coach, friend, inspiration and role model”.

The ceremony was attended by First Minister Jack McConnell, who said: “This is not just about people who achieve in exams.”. Photograph by Rod Huckbody.
