Hollywood hell-raiser Russell Crowe may come across to many as a no-nonsence hardman, but staff at The TES were given the chance to see the New Zealander-born actor's sweeter side this week.

After his interview for The TES's new magazine about his best teacher (Elizabeth Morgan, who still works at Vaucluse public school in Sydney where Crowe attended when he was 10) the actor, famous for punch-ups with photographers and temper tantrums on set, asked to be sent an extra copy so he could check Ms Morgan was happy with the article.

So, while the Gladiator star may hit the headlines with wild tales of his notorious volatility, underneath it all it seems he's still a teacher's pet.
