Lord Puttnam’s assertion that gesture and voice systems will replace traditional keyboards in a working environment in the not-too-distant future is viable (“The keyboard is dead. Long live voice recognition”, 3 February). The technology children use in the home is increasingly operated by touch and voice, and so it stands to reason that schools should follow suit and harness this learning. Education must support the demand for skills in technology in the outside world, which is, and will continue to be, vital to the future economy.
