Sympathy for the moggie monitors

The metropolitan obsession with recycling has finally found its way out into the sticks, and the back yard at FErret Towers is graced by colour-coded wheelie bins.

One for vegetation, one for paper and one for discarded beer bottles or something, we're not too sure. As the confusion mounts and the pile of unsorted rubbish grows, I can feel a bonfire coming on.

But if you find your recycling duties burdensome, spare a thought for the the Royal Marines. After a hard day running around their commando training centre in south Devon, they must sort all their waste as part of their training. Meanwhile, the Army is monitoring feral cats on the mock-battleground and informing the Cats Protection League.
