St Machan’s Primary in Lennoxtown and Paible Secondary on North Uist are linked with schools on the island of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean. In addition to the 15 EU countries, Comenius includes the Czech Republic, Norway, Iceland, Hungary, Romania, Cyprus and Liechtenstein. It is hoped to include Poland, Slovakia and other former Eastern bloc countries in future.
Rural schools such as Kingsland Primary in Peebles and West Linton Primary have got together to form a joint partnership with schools in Belgium, France and Germany.
Guardbridge and Pittenweem primaries in Fife are joint partners with schools in Norway, Sweden and north Germany. Their geographical location has been central to their project on the North Sea and its endangered species.
Since 1995, pupils at Peterhead Academy and its partner schools in Holland and France have been on work-experience in each other’s countries, with placements including primary schools and social work departments. Peterhead Academy hopes to run an international art course in 1999.
