FE staff should not be put off by slothful trainees. They could be just the sort the colleges are looking for - bums on seats, as it were. The annual conference of the British Psychological Society, held in Edinburgh last week, heard from researchers who compared unemployed people who opt for retraining with those who do not.
Apparently people who refuse retraining are “younger, more likely to be male, taller, in better health, have more energy and take more vigorous exercise”. The more assertive people are, you see, the more likely they are to eschew useless training.
