I have just received this leak from a Department for Children, Schools and Families office. As part of the new healthier nation policy, all pupils will be measured on arrival at secondary school and then again at the end of Year 11. Any school where fewer than 30 per cent of Year 11 pupils are taller than 5ft 8in will be threatened with closure.
There will also be a measure of how much pupils have grown from Year 7 to Year 11, but not much notice will be taken of that.
Schools which are forced to close will be reopened as “independent” schools - with a really high step to ensure that only the tallest pupils can get in.
