Bravo! and Das Stimmt! are revision resource books for learners aiming at the higher grades at GCSE. Each takes its five-unit structure from the five Areas of Experience; exercises within each area become increasingly difficult.
They offer systematic exam practice: each page is set out like an exam paper, listening texts are highly defined and sound formal.
There is an even balance between attainment targets. Reading and listening exercises have target scores for pupils to assess their own performance. Speaking and writing are not easy to assess independently, so learners are advised to refer to their teacher or supervisor. But what if you don’t have one? The books do have separate teacher’s notes, which consist of sample role plays, transcripts and exercise solutions. However, with the self-help market in mind, the publishers have combined pupil and teacher materials in alternative versions under the titles Revision for GermanFrench GCSE.
