Targeting diabetes

More than a million people in the UK have diabetes, and the number is rising. Diabetes UK’s resource pack for primary schools contains sensible and informative ideas. Work in design and technology includes planning, making and trialling healthy snacks for a football team, making bread and salad into interesting choices. Science ideas include analysing diet diaries for cartoon characters and from real life. Activities for citizenship challenge children to think about how charities such as Diabetes UK obtain their support and why they need it. The pack is being distributed to schools in more than 70 LEAs where diabetes rates are high.

There is also a free KS3 CD-Rom. Contact Alan Leask, Diabetes UK.
