A scheme where high-achieving graduates are sent into London schools to teach without full training is to be replicated in Manchester.

Stephen Twigg, school standards minister, announced the plan to expand the Teach First initiative in a speech this week to the Fabian Society. He also revealed that the Government would be setting up a special strand of its London Challenge project to improve primary schools in the capital.
