As someone old enough to remember the first push for staff development back in the 1970s, I recall the positive role of teacher centres. I wonder whether the forthcoming Institute for Public Policy Research report will suggest their revival (“Quadruple training for teachers”, TES, April 11)?

The centres encouraged contact with colleagues in other schools, empowered teachers and provided a local resource. As you state in your leader, giving teachers “a chance to seize control of their own development ... can only be a good thing”.
