It is important not to overreact to the reduction in some teacher-training bursaries (“Trainee bursaries slashed”, November 20). Latest recruitment figures show there is unprecedented interest in teaching as a profession, across all subject areas. David Laws claims there is a “real problem in attracting talented people”. There isn’t.
We will continue to monitor recruitment, but there is sufficient evidence to suggest teaching will continue to attract increasing numbers of high-quality candidates.
