British Council Scotland has added Malawi to its 70-strong list of countries participating in its Global Gateway initiative.
The service offers a one-stop shop online for teachers who want to include an international dimension in the curriculum. It guides users through developing an international partnership from how to get started, finding a partner, curriculum development, and gaining accreditation for good international educational work.
Teachers from Chimutu Community Day Secondary in Malawi have worked with counterparts from St Andrew's High in Kirkcaldy to share resources about how their students spend a typical day. "Our school day and free time", for pupils aged 10-18, involves exchanges of texts, pictures and video clips but with a difference.
The Malawi students write two texts on how they spend their school day and another on how they spend their free time. These texts have to be fused into one, which is sent to friends in Scotland, who have to come up with the original two texts.
Students from Scotland send their information in the form of pictures and video clips without descriptions; descriptions are provided separately for the Malawians to work out.
