This is the opportunity for students to have the world in their hands. The game is enjoyed by all age groups from Years 7 to 12. We sit in a circle and I throw an inflatable globe to students. They call out their name and the name of a country that starts with the same letter, for example Sarah from Sweden. With new classes I use it to learn names, but it also helps with map-reading skills. Not everyone knows the difference between a country and a continent. For a differentiated task, I get more able pupils to call out both a country and its continent (Sarah from Sweden in Europe).
Others take more time to respond but the answer is in their hands - they simply have to look at the globe.
