The training of teachers is too important to be left to chance. The Qualified Teacher Status standards and Initial Teacher Training national curricula were the subject of a national consultation and were generally well received as being appropriate in level and coverage.

Providers of ITT must be confident that all standards have been met before QTS can be awarded. They are certainly not required to assess each standard separately, or to ensure a separate evidence base for each standard.

This month the TTA is starting to monitor current requirements to establish where changes would improve the quality of initial teacher training and where further advice or support is required.

NaPTEC’s views will be taken into account and the TTA will seek the views of teachers, NQTs, headteachers, teacher training providers, parents and all those with an interest in education.
