Teachers fear new parking charges

TEACHERS who need their cars for work should be spared the impact of new workplace parking charges Education Secretary David Blunkett said this week.

Under a new transport Bill, councils will have the power to tax companies on their parking spaces i order to raise money for public transport and discourage car use. But unions fear it will hit school budgets and the pockets of teachers. The Department of the Environment, Transport and Regions, has ruled out a blanket exemption for schools.
