Blackburn-based education technology firm Promethean commissioned the survey. Chef Jamie Oliver , above, was voted top choice for the ideal teacher followed by comedian Dawn French. Seven per cent picked Tony Blair, which, among male respondents, left him trailing Homer Simpson. But the Prime Minister got twice as many votes as the chancellor, Gordon Brown.
Twelve per cent of UK adults say a teacher had a stronger impact on their lives than their parents and 23 per cent could cite a teacher who was a "hugely positive influence", according to an online survey of 1,003 UK adults for World Teachers Day . A third said they respected teachers and felt it was a demanding career, and a third of Welsh and Scottish respondents confessed to having had a crush on a teacher.
