The White House plays host to a number of visits every year, many from schools. But if any of those teachers or students should happen upon Donald Trump - who will take up the role of president in January following a decisive election win yesterday - they shouldn’t expect him to take a hands-on approach to welcoming his guests.

TES reported in 2006 on a self-penned blog by the real-estate-magnate-turned-reality-star-turned-politician, in which he said that he recoiled from physical interactions with those working in education.

‘Germiest jobs’

“I’m going to do everything in my power not to shake hands with teachers,” Mr Trump writes on his Trump University blog.

Apparently referring to a study from the University of Arizona that rated professions based on how “germy” they were, Mr Trump continues: “According to a new study, they have the germiest jobs, with 17,000 germs per square inch on their desks. That’s 10 times the germ rate of other professions.”
