Teachers pick up gongs in Queen’s birthday honours

School leaders, teachers and other individuals working in education have been recognised in the Queen’s birthday honours list. 

Perhaps the highest profile educationalist on the list is Professor Chris Husbands, vice chancellor of Sheffield Hallam university and a former director of London’s Institute of Education. He received a knighthood.

In total, around 11 per cent of honours have gone to those working in education.

Professor Leslie Ebdon, the former director of Office for Fair Access to Higher Education, has also been awarded a knighthood.

Other senior awards in education include CBEs for Professor Rosemary Davis, professor emeritus at UCL Institute of Education; and Pat Smart chief executive of the Create Partnership Trust academy trust.
