You gave a false impression of the National Union of Teachers’ view of the use of unqualified staff at Ramsgate School (TES, October 24). In relation only to the way in which possible capability procedures are being handled I did say that the school was now proceeding more professionally.
However, I did tell the reporter that I was very concerned at the engagement of unqualified staff to teach. The NUT’s view is clear: all pupils deserve to be taught by qualified teachers. In a school with as many problems as Ramsgate that is doubly important.
