TEACHERS took more than two million sick days at a cost of pound;430 million during 2000, the Government revealed today. Schools standards minister Stephen Timms said full-time teachers in English state schools took 2,392,400 days off sick with another 301,970 days lost to sick part-time teachers. In a Commons written reply, Mr Timms said: “The estimated cost of this lost teacher-time is pound;430m.” Provisional figures for 2001 will be published at the end of the month.
