Teachers who protest too much

Whilst having the greatest possible sympathy for your contributor who suffered a miscarriage in her inspection week (“Did OFSTED cause miscarriage?”, TES, April 6), I was disappointed to see that tired old chestnut “no one in any other profession puts as much time, commitment and energy into the job as teachers”.

This is simply not true. What about jnior hospital doctors (who can work literally round the clock) - and many other professionals who are just as stressed as teachers? If teachers are to attract support from the general public, they need to look around them. Overworked and stressed they may be, but ill-informed generalisations do not help the cause.
