Why, What, How?, published by The Mathematical Association, asks why maths should be a central part of the school curriculum, what pupils should learn in maths classes, and how maths can best be taught, giving several examples of good practice.

The aim of the booklet is to underline the enduring nature of maths in a period of rapid change which has encompassed Cockcroft, the National Curriculum and new technology.
