Teaching Assistant’s Handbook, By Teena Kamen. Hodder amp; Stoughton pound;12.99
Training for teaching assistants must be a high priority. Not only do they need it if they are to be real partners in the classroom, but they are probably the most enthusiastic learners in the staffroom. This book fills the need for a practical handbook aimed at supporting TAs through the various NVQ and specialist teacher assistant courses and qualifications. It covers all the key aspects of classroom, behaviour and resource management, and has good sections on learning and the acquisition of skills. There are activities, exercises and suggestions for further reading. It would be a suitable and perhaps self-interested gesture for any headteacher to buy copies for his or her TAs.
