Teaching degrees less popular

THE popularity of undergraduate routes into teacher training continues to decline, with applications to courses down on this time last year.

By the end of June, there were 51,338 applications to primary courses leading to qualified teacher status - down 2,770. Secondary applications were also down, by 1,254 to 6,347, according to the latest figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service.
