NEARLY half of all 16-year-olds in full-time education are also working, according to Earning and Learning, a report from the Lifelong Learning Group.

While most students preferred weekend work, a significant number were working during the week and puttingin more than 15 hours. The authors are concerned that it will become harder to balance the demands of part-time work and school, following the introduction of Curriculum 2000 - the broader programme of study for sixth-formers beginning in September.
