YOUNG people are increasingly likely to experiment with smoking, but unlikely to pay for cigarettes themselves, a new report from the Schools Health Education Unit has revealed. It tracks trends between 1983 and 2001 and shows around 40 per cent of 12 and 13-year-olds and around 60 per cent of 14 and 15-year-olds had tried a cigarette in 2001. But they are less likely to buy cigarettes from a shop than their predecessors.
