JAPAN: A 14-year-old pupil used her class breaks to sell sexual favours over the net, according to reports in the Japanese media.

The unnamed girl from Nanyo, Yamagata prefecture, in northern Japan, regularly logged into matchmaking websites from her high school's computers during breaks and after school to post messages such as "looking for a lover", police said. Her activities came to light when a 32-year-old man was arreste for soliciting.

Takahiro Moritani allegedly paid the 14-year-old girl 50,000 yen (pound;250) for sex in November last year.

Some government reports have suggested that a small percentage of girls, some as young as 12, are dabbling in prostitution for "fun" and profit. The local board of education vowed to prevent such an incident in future by preventing students from accessing websites not related to their lessons.
