'2,000 migrant children held'

More than 2,000 children a year are locked up in UK immigration centres, a coalition of refugee charities estimates.

The Refugee Council, Save the Children and Bail for Immigration Detainees said detention was "inhumane and unnecessary". They want the Government to develop alternatives to custody for immigrants aged under 18.
