A green call to arms

Pupils must be at the forefront of the fight against climate change, according to a leading environmentalist, writes David Marley.

Jonathon Porritt, environment adviser to Gordon Brown, was due to tell a Girls' Schools Association conference yesterday: "Young people must not give up hope. More than ever, we need their enthusiasm, commitment and anger."

Sessions were also to be held for pupils to make energy-saving plans.
