A growing force

More state school pupils will become military cadets under a scheme announced this week by Andrew Adonis, the junior schools minister. Lord Adonis said that six partnerships were being established between state schools in London and neighbouring private schools that already have combined cadet forces. A further four partnerships will start in September 2009. At least 50 state schools already participate without such support.
