A Kafkaesque exam board

I wish to complain about how I have been treated by Edexcel.

Last week I received an un-dated letter confirming I had been assigned to a team and giving details of the training event for key stage 3 English markers on Saturday, April 30 in London. The letter also stated that I would be receiving, "under separate cover, training materials in advance".

As these had not arrived I emailed Edexcel.

On Thursday evening I received a message to ring Edexcel. On doing this I was informed that because the room was over-booked, my team's training day was now Sunday, May 1, and I would be paid an extra pound;50 for attending. When told them this was impossible as I had a prior engagement, I was offered Sunday, May 15. This date was also impossible for me, but there were no other dates available.

When I protested that I was being penalised for the organisation's incompetence no sympathy was offered. I pointed out that I had even received the training materials and was told that, if I had arrived on Saturday without them, I would have been sent home anyway. At this Kafkaesque point I decided to abandon the argument!

This high-handed treatment means that I will now not be able to mark the KS3 tests as I have for the past four years - and miss out on the income I would have received.
