On a slate

The General Teaching Council for Scotland is nothing if not consistent. Teacher members, infamously, are elected following their inclusion on union "slates" of candidates.

And so it was with wry amsement we noted that the canapes served after the council's first annual lecture were offered - yes, you've guessed it - on slates. It must be another of those attempts at corporate imagery.
