Absence cut by half a day

THE targets report also includes schools' progress towards cutting pupil absenteeism.

The primary absence rate averaged 10 days per pupil in 1998-99 against a target of nine days; the secondary figure is 21 days per pupil compared with a target of 18 days.

Last session represented a mere improvement of half a day in both primary and secondary.
