Advisory forum gives fe a voice

THE Scottish Qualifications Authority is to set up an FE advisory forum, chaired by a college principal, to reassure the sector its needs are not overlooked.

John Young, director of the Scottish Further Education Unit, is being seconded to the SQA to lend his expertise to the organisation - an appointment similar to that made last year of Anton Colella, depute head of St Margaret Mary's Secondary in Glasgow.

In exchanges following his statement to the Scottish Parliament last week on the SQA's future (page six), Jack McConnell, Education Minister, said:

"Over the past 10 months, I have been conscious of the fact that the focus was predominantly on schools and that the colleges were feeling a bit left behind."
