After-school clubs

The first 200 of the Government's promised 8,000 after-school clubs were launched this week. The Pounds 51 million scheme will run until March 1999, by which time the Government intends to use National Lottery cash backed by business to fund the clubs. David Blunkett, the Education Secretary, has pledged that by 2001 there will be at least 8,000 clubs.
