Allow choice for pupils to mix

In his tirade against Ruth Kelly, the Communities Minister in England, (TESS February 2), Alex Wood states: "In a healthy society, young people of all backgrounds mix freely and not solely with those from the same background." Possibly. Another definition of "a healthy society"

would be one in which people are free to mix with whomsoever they choose, rather than having that decision made for them by government.
