Ardrossan annexed?

23rd January 2004 at 00:00
One of the more intriguing and unheralded mid-season transfers appears to be the switch of Saltcoats, Stevenson and Ardrossan to a new council team.

A press release from HMI on community learning in the Three Towns, as they are known locally, manages to place them in North Lanarkshire, the country's highest-performing landlocked authority, if you go by HMI's indicators.

This must come as something of a surprise to North Ayrshire, which normally is host to the Towns - but maybe there is something we don't know.

A coastal principality run from Coatbridge? Must surely be something to do with duty-free bottles of Buckfast.
