Art school online

Studio Art School, a company offering online art and design tuition, has been nominated for a New Statesman New Media Award for education. This rewards projects that use digital technology to benefit the community. Winners will be announced in July.

The company, based in Loanhead, Midlothian, is run by four former education managers, who offer tuition for hobbyists or students preparing a portfolio for art college. The online studio allows students to display work.

A free introductory tutorial is available to anyone who wishes to submit their work for appraisal.

Students applying to art and design courses at college can enrol in a portfolio surgery which gives them access to a secure area of the website where they can upload images of their work and communicate with the tutors.

Other courses range from Introduction to Mixed Media, costing pound;150 for 72 hours, to Designing for Fashion, costing pound;300 for 150 hours.
