ASL - Learn to hear

28th November 2008 at 00:00

School staff with little experience of working with deaf children have been targeted by a new DVD.

Here to Learn, which will be launched next month, is part of the National Deaf Children Society's campaign to make school fully accessible to deaf children. A longitudinal study of Scottish deaf pupils' attainment previously showed that, whereas 44.7 per cent of hearing pupils achieved Credit passes at Standard grade, only 17.9 per cent of deaf pupils achieved the same.

The DVD features television actor Colin Wells, who has appeared in Hollyoaks and Crossroads, and his daughter Rachael, who is profoundly deaf.
