Assembly of the week

5th April 2013 at 01:00

Shakespeare's birthday

To mark the date many believe to be the Bard's birthday, 23 April, topbanana's assembly outline can be adapted for all ages.

Use images to paint a picture of Shakespeare's life. Ask students to think of modern-day comparisons to what was once a form of mass entertainment: the theatre. Would Shakespeare have used computer games, television or social media?

Leave students with two thoughts: Shakespeare as a popular entertainer, who they might have followed on Twitter, and Shakespeare as a person who used his unique talents to write plays we still enjoy today.

Hand out Post-it notes and ask students to write down what talents they see in another student and stick them on the wall on their way out.
