Assembly's Neet idea
An inquiry has been launched to look at how the Assembly government is helping young Neets - those who are not in education, employment or training. The cross-party Enterprise and Learning Committee will investigate the effectiveness of strategies put in place to tackle the Neet problem in Wales. The latest official statistics showed that 11.5 per cent of 16- to 18-year-olds fitted the description in 2007, but a recent survey by the Office for National Statistics suggested that the number reached an all-time high of almost 13 per cent in June last year. Gareth Jones AM, committee chair, said: "When conducting inquiries like this it is as important to get the experiences of those directly involved as it is from those producing the strategies."
